Job Description

South Park Senior Citizens (SPSC) is hiring for our next amazing team member serving as our Programming and Dining Assistant!


Khmer speaking is highly preferred, but not required.


SPSC is located in the heart of South Park, where we work to support Seniors as they explore healthy and active lives. Our Center is a vibrant place for community to gather, friends to be made, and culture to be celebrated. Our Seniors, who are primarily from Asian and Hispanic descent, gather to enjoy cultural meals, singing, dancing, exercise classes, field trips, and specialized cultural programming and celebrations. As many of our Seniors are living vulnerable lives, SPSC is also a place where they can receive social service support and resources, provided in multiple languages.


As our next Programming and Dining Assistant, you will be providing direct service to our Seniors and your role will require a high level of customer service and initiative while providing a warm, engaging, and professional delivery of services.


This role reports to: SPSC Engagement and Programs Manager


Place of Business: South Park Senior Citizens th Ave S Seattle WA 98108


Position Schedule: Part-time, 15 hours weekly: 3:15pm-8:15pm, Mon-Wed-Fri


Essential Job Duties and Requirements


Dining Assistance: provide meal service support from kitchen to dining space; this will include:


  • Dining space set-up: work to create a warm and inviting space for SPSC Seniors that is well organized, clean, and efficient; includes setting up Dining space with tables, chairs, and tablecloths, setting tables for service, preparing beverages, silverware, etc.


  • Assisting with meal service: serving food, refreshing beverages, clearing plates, ensuring Seniors have all they need


  • Transition from dinner to activities: clearing tables of dishes, tablecloths, etc; putting away tables and chairs, set-up for evening activities


  • Assist in closing down the kitchen as needed; help with putting away dishes, preparing next night's silverware, etc.


Programs Assistance: ensure set-up for programs is complete and assist with programming as needed


  • Programming includes: Dining, Karaoke, Dancing, Exercise, Book Club, Presentations, Celebrations


  • Weekly inventory of products used for dining and programs


  • Ensure proper close-down of programming space at the end of the evening/event


Cultural Competence

  • Actively work with other staff and participants to undo institutional racism, and build cultural competence. Interact with everyone in a culturally competent manner.


Required skills and experience

  • Khmer speaking highly preferred, but not required
  • Willingness to be a flexible team player striving to provide a quality dining experience while fulfilling the SPSC Mission
  • Dependability and reliability in arriving to work on time each day and consistently providing a strong delivery
  • Physical stamina for the demanding work of the kitchen environment; may need to lift up to 50 pounds for short distances
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse clients, staff, and the public
  • Commitment to maintaining client confidentiality
  • Food Handler's Permit: maintain a current Washington State permit; obtaining this permit will be paid for by South Park Senior Center
  • CPR/First Aid/AED credential; obtaining this will be arranged by South Park Senior Center
  • Washington State driver license


Compensation

Pay for this position will be $18.75 per hour; additional compensation will be paid if you are Khmer speaking and can assist with translation/interpretation. This role does not accrue vacation time, but does accrue sick time.


Eleven paid holidays are included with this position.


This is an at-will position, and can be terminated at any time by employer or employee.
