As a multi-issue, multi-strategy organization, we work to improve lives on an individual level as well as affect broader social change by engaging in advocacy and community organizing. We work on a wide range of issues-from homelessness to housing to immigration to employment-and provide services ranging from shelter to tenant rights outreach to residential care, from deportation defense and immigrant rights education to workforce development for day laborers and domestic workers. Despite this wide range of issues, however, we work together across programs to meet the diverse needs of our communities and collectively address the root causes of suffering and injustice. Program Summary: The Richard M. Cohen Residence, a program of Dolores Street Community Services, is a state-licensed Residential Care Facility for the Chronically-Ill (RCF-CI) that provides facility-based health care and other services to its 10 residents. The Cohen Residence is staffed 24-hours a day, provides three daily meals, nursing case management, social work case management, attendant care, medication management, and social activities. It also provides coordination of primary medical care, and psychiatric care, with linkages and referrals to additional mental health and substance use services, transportation, financial management, educational, legal, and other services as needed. All of the residents are formerly homeless persons with physical, mental, and/or substance use disabilities in addition to having disabling HIV/AIDS. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Follows established menu. • Prepares special meals for clients with physician's letter of instruction. • Ensures that food is "served safe" and held at safe temperatures before serving. • Communicates inventory and equipment needs to Food Service Manager. • Follows basic FIFO inventory rule. • Displays/presents food in an attractive and appetizing manner. • Removes served food from dining room after meals. • Stores, labels, and dates leftover foods. • Checks sandwich ingredients and beverages in dining room refrigerators each day. Discards expired and "tired' foods. Restocks food as needed. • Completes list of daily maintenance chores. • Removes recycling and compostable garbage from kitchen to trash at end-of-day. • Wipes down kitchen counters, sinks, & stove-tops. • Receives and stores deliveries in the absence of the Food Service Manager. Qualifications, Experience & Skills: • Working knowledge of safety and hygiene standards. • Familiar with and able to prepare traditional American cuisine including traditional ethnic dishes. • Experience with kitchen tools and equipment • Knowledge of nutrition, portioning, and food preservation • Willingness to work with clients who have a history of substance use and psychosocial issues. • Team player and healthy communicator • Ability to pass an extensive background check • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
