The House includes 40 bedrooms, a full sized pool, screening room, gym and a glass enclosed rooftop bar & kitchen. Additionally, it is the home of the first US outpost of Pizza East and Chicken Shop, exciting restaurant concepts developed by Soho House in London.The Role…At Soho House the Head Pastry Chef is responsible for overseeing the daily management of the pastry department and for assisting the Executive Chef and the Head Baker in planning, organizing and managing Pastry Department according to company policies and Chicago standards.Main Duties... Lead a team of Pastry Cooks on managing and organizing of the activities of the Pastry Department to maintain the highest standards of food quality, cost control, and consistency Process the weekly schedule, conduct pre-shift meetings, and assist team members with any inquiries. Manage the pastry cooks in their daily responsibilities; ensure that all items are ready for service. Train, supervise, manage, coach, counsel, and evaluate all members of the pastry team in absence of the Pastry chef. Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to provide clear direction to the pastry team. Be able to understand and follow up on the expectations of the kitchen, food bibles, recipes, quality, and presentation required of each dish. Assign and instruct pastry team in details of work; observe performance and encourage improvement where necessary Communicate with employees using a positive and clear speaking voice; listen to and understand requests; respond with appropriate actions and provide accurate information Remain calm and alert, especially during emergency situations and/or heavy restaurant activity, serving as a role model for the pastry team and other employees RequirementsRequired Skills/Qualifications Minimum of 3 years of direct work experience as a Pastry Cook. Food Handler's certification. Thorough knowledge of restaurant operations including foods, service techniques, and guest interaction. Utilize traditional software programs such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), Micros, ADP, and any department-specific systems in use. Knowledge of Health and Safety. Knowledge of food hygiene. Considerable skill in math and algebraic equations using percentages. Ability to give and take both verbal and written direction. Strong communication and people skills. Flexible schedule. Ability to multitask and work in a fast paced environment. Physical Requirements Must be able to seize, grasp, turn and hold objects with hands. Must be able to work on your feet for at least 8 hours. Fast paced movements are required to go from one part of the club to others. Must be able to move, pull, carry, or lift at least 50 pounds on occasion and 35 pounds regularly. Occasional environmental exposures to cold, heat, and water.
