Overview:

$18 / hour

As a Culinary Assistant at Carowinds, you'll be responsible for aiding the head chef or kitchen manager. Job duties include ensuring that the kitchen remains clean, assisting with food preparation, and ensuring all cooking equipment is in proper working order. You'll also:

  • Work in an a la carte, buffet, catering/special events, production or quick-service/food court environment
  • Work with basic recipes and learning advanced food preparation
  • Gain skills in culinary fundamentals in hot and cold food station setup, sauce-making, catering production, and salad/sandwich preparation
  • Deep-fry, sauté, roast, boil, and grill, along with vegetable, grains, and starch cookery
  • Follow standardized recipes and food sanitation guidelines
  • Culinary Assistant, Baking & Pastry
  • Work in a high-volume bakery, banquet, catering/special events, production or restaurant environment
  • Learn the technical skills of plated dessert preparations as well as muffins, breads, cookies, petit fours, and cupcakes
  • Gain knowledge of food cost control and product ordering
  • Mix, cut, proof, and bake
  • Follow standardized recipes and food sanitation guidelines

Qualifications:
  • Minimum: 18 years old
  • Minimum 2 years kitchen experience
  • Open availability to fill a rotating 40 hour schedule, to include nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to pass a servsafe certification class & servesafe alcohol certification class.
  • Possess passion for the culinary arts and desire to learn more in the Food & Beverage industry
  • Demonstrate good judgment of quantity, quality and production
  • Display proficient knife skills and knowledge of basic cuts
  • Able to understand the importance of and follow a recipe, including identify various food products, dairy, meats and produce
  • Maintains cleanliness and safety in assigned work area and performs all duties in compliance with Cedar Fair Safety guidelines and requirements and reports all unsafe or unusual conditions to supervision.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends and holiday periods to meet business needs.
