Job Description

Position Summary: This position is responsible for supervision of deli operation to ensure customer service standards are being met, presentation levels are at expected levels, and safe food handling procedures are being followed. He or she must be able to function as manager when they are not present.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Duties:

  1. Ensure execution of manager direction in regard to customer service, quality assurance, compliance and uniforms.
  2. Greet and provide assistance to customers and ensure that the departmental staff are doing the same.
  3. Monitor employee breaks to guarantee they take place in a timely and non-disruptive manner.
  4. Perform job duties of staff positions as needed.
  5. Complete all Deli ordering on time each day or week as needed.
  6. Ensure all staff members are following proper hand washing techniques and personal hygiene guidelines.
  7. Ensure all staff members comply with company policies and state and federal regulations with regard to work practices.
  8. Monitor uniforms, nametags and shoes to ensure guidelines are followed and hair is restrained properly.

Reporting Relationship:

  1. Store$ Manager

Subordinate Staff (providing direct supervision):

  1. All Full Service Deli Clerks
Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Some companies may have a minimum age requirement of 18.
  • Deli counter or food preparation experience required.
  • Ability to lift heavy items, ranging from 5 to 30 lbs, and operate equipment, such as meat and cheese slicers, scales, cash registers, etc.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and math skills.
  • Ability to speak, read and fluent in English to ensure fluent communication with customers, coworkers, and supervisors who only speak English.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow all company procedures and regulations regarding food handling and sanitation.
  • A courteous and efficient approach to handling customer requests, questions, and complaints.

Work Environment:

  • Store Climate can range, averaging 70-78 degrees, freezer and walk-ins low as 20 degrees.
  • Moderate level noise.

Travel:

  • No travel needed

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly stand, bend, twist, kneel, and crouch; use hands to handle or feel and talk or hear
  • Frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to stand and move for up to 8 hours per day

LIFTING: Average Weight: 5 lbs up to 30 lbs. Frequency: Daily
