In doing so, Black Sheep Foods is creating a future where alternative meats far exceed the flavors of their animal counterparts and where customers can have variety in a market currently saturated with products that mimic conventional beef, pork, and chicken.


The reviews of our first product, plant-based lamb, have been incredible (from lamb lovers and skeptics alike) and chefs love us. Already, our lamb is on the menu at a two-star Michelin chef's restaurant, a Times Chef of the Year restaurant, and one of the top 30 vegan restaurants in the country-with numerous other exciting launches in the pipeline.


As we scale up our lamb in food service and launch additional products, we are looking for an experienced Food Safety & Quality Assurance specialist to effectively and efficiently implement and oversee food safety policies and procedures in our co-manufacturing facility. This role requires dedication and expertise to ensure there are comprehensive food safety and quality control plans in our new facility that are well understood by all employees.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and implement company quality standards provided by authorities and facility policies
  • Design Food Safety Plans associated with HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points), Risk-Based Preventive controls and a Recall Plan
  • Implement and maintain GMP Sanitary Operations for personnel, equipment, the space, and any other surfaces that might directly or indirectly affect the Food Safety and Quality Control of raw materials and finished products
  • Maintain impeccable records of ingredients, products, audits, and sanitary documentations in a systematic manner
  • Implement full compliance with FDA and other regulatory agencies at the federal, state and local level
  • Create a Sanitation & GMP System, including its standardized processes in execution, validation, verification and performance monitoring
  • Train employees with Sanitary Policies and Quality Control procedures
  • Conduct daily monitoring, weekly and monthly audits and enforce corrections and corrective actions until verification
  • Communicate with third parties for quality and food safety related certificates
  • Implement SQF (Safe Quality Food) or FSSC 22000 certifications


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or other related field preferred or equivalent experience
  • 2-3 years previous manufacturing QA/QC and/or laboratory experience in food industry
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Must be accurate, precise, and well-organized
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Team player
  • HACCP certified
  • Has completed FSSC 22000 and/or SQF (Safe Quality Food) training(s)
  • Familiar with GFSI, and ISO 9001 guidelines
