Job Title: Racing Valet 840863 Department: Racing 500930 Report To: Director of Racing Racing Secretary Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesRacing Valets are responsible for attending to Jockeys and to saddle/unsaddle horses at the racetrack by performing the following duties: Obtains numbered saddle towel to correspond with horse's Post Position in the race; inserts weight pads in the saddle to meet weight requirements for the race. Obtains specific set of colors/silks from Silks Attendant in the Silks Room corresponding to stable colors. Assists the trainer with saddling the horse in the assigned Stall or in the Paddock. Unsaddles horse after each race and returns riding equipment to storage area. Will abide by all safety requirements as outlined in the Safety Manual or as required by individual departments and/or job functions. Must have experience working around Thoroughbred and Quarter Horses. Other duties as assigned by management. Qualifications A High School Diploma or GED; College experience preferred. At least 1 year of experience in the racetrack industry. Excellent verbal, mathematics, interpersonal, communication and writing skills. Ability to troubleshoot problems, offer recommendations, decision making, ability to make quick accurate decisions independently. Extensive equine knowledge, types of racing and all racing industry requirements. Must be able to obtain an Indiana Horse Racing Commission License.
