The starting pay range for this position begins at $15/hour and is based on the level of qualifications and relevant experience above the minimum requirements.

The Wine Tasting Room Associate will provide our guests with a warm, friendly, professional atmosphere while helping each guest become familiar with Biltmore Estate wine and wine making in general. This is accomplished with tactfulness, adaptability, and hospitality. Wine Servers will use their knowledge of wines, Biltmore, and the Asheville area to deliver one-of-a-kind experiences for guests through active listening and world class guest service techniques. Other responsibilities include assistance as needed with opening and closing the Tasting Room, performing assigned side work, restocking the counters and maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of the Tasting Room. The incumbent will also provide general support and assistance to the leadership, department, and company.

Reserve: a position working up to 20 hours per week (between 40-999 hours per year)

Weekends and evenings are a requirement of this position. Shifts can vary, but generally range from:

10:30am-6:00pm

12:00pm-7:30pm

1:00pm-Close

Requirements:

1. Previous retail and/or customer service experience strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will have had at least six (6) months of prior retail or guest service experience in an upscale/luxury setting.
2. Exceptional guest relation and verbal communication skills.
3. Basic math skills and the ability to operate a cash register/point of sale (POS) system. Previous experience with cash handling helpful.
4. Demonstrated commitment to providing world class guest service.
5. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, guest service environment as part of a team.
6. Ability to anticipate guest needs, be proactive, and take initiative where appropriate.
7. Ability to exercise good judgment and multi-task.
8. Some locations may require special skills or experience and/or may have age requirements or restrictions.
9. The employee must be outgoing and genuinely enjoy working with people.

Essential Job Duties:

1. Provides an exceptional guest service experience for each visitor by greeting and welcoming all guests in a warm and sincere manner; doing everything possible to ensure a memorable and pleasant guest experience.
2. Create a unique tasting experience for each guest by engaging guests in the wine lists and assisting guests in selecting the wines that fit the guest's wine preferences.
3. Possess general understanding of the wine making process and Biltmore Wine portfolio.
4. Up sell and cross sell wines and merchandise, including quantity discounts.
5. Promotes the Vanderbilt Wine Club and accurately conveys all information regarding the club to guests.
6. Extend a pleasant and sincere farewell and thank you to all guests.
7. Prepare the Tasting Room for the days' activities.
8. Routinely assist in the cleaning of dishware, glasses and other Tasting Room necessities, including being scheduled in the kitchen for an entire shift.
9. Keep a safe, clean and neat work area.
10. Accurately track wine inventory/usage on a daily basis.
11. Stock, clean, and close the Tasting Room at the end of the day.
12. Due to the high volume of guests and the very high profile nature of the job, the employee must be able to multi task and be very attentive to their surroundings.

Physical Requirements:

1.Lifting up to 50 pounds maximum with frequent bending, lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
2. Requires walking/standing for extended periods of time.
3. Must be at least 18 years of age.
