Job Description

Professional Employment Group's Fortune 100 client is seeking a Data Steward for their team. This is a long term contract opportunity of over a year. PEG offers our contractors health, vision, and dental insurance.
What You Will Be Doing:
The Enterprise Data Governance Framework enables the firm to maximize the ability to generate value through its data in a structured, consistent, scalable and trusted manner. The data steward role is a tangible function of the firm's data governance framework - ensuring our data is cared for through its complete lifecycle, as an enterprise asset. Data stewards partner across the firm to ensure data is created, managed and effectively utilized as trusted enterprise assets - which leads to understood, controlled and reliable data. The specific responsibilities include:

  • Serve as the primary business contact representative responsible for the clear definitions of data, ensuring the correct usage and context of data, enforcing policy/security/privacy requirements and maintaining data quality and integrity within a respective business data domain and/or subject area.
  • Serve as the primary business contact representative responsible for identification and definition of data in response to regulatory, legal, and audit requests and partner with technology delivery teams to ensure valid and controlled production of required data.
  • Oversee data lifecycle including operational and administrative management of data and overall data curation
  • Provide metrics on metadata descriptions from data sources to measure completeness of descriptions and compliance with metadata standards
  • Drive discussions on data definition, taxonomy and classification based on lineage and transfer / business transformation data
  • Define and assist with implementing specific data quality requirements and present metrics documenting adherence and improvements to data quality rules
  • Assist in development and maintenance of business requirements / classifications of data (e.g., retention, security classification, etc.)
  • Help identify metadata-related inconsistencies across business areas and frame resolutions
  • Implement, enforce, and demonstrate strong understanding of data standards and policies
  • Analyze data that does not align with requirements and recommends corrective actions

    • provide direction as to the effective use of technology within the firm while proactively seeking technical improvements and taking initiative to communicate and implement solutions using this technology, providing leadership and mentoring related to functional and technical aspects of systems development and design, tools, methodologies, best practices and processes and standards that apply to their area of expertise.
    • provide monitoring of activities in applications and tools to ensure that appropriate security controls are maintained and assisting management in the protection of system resources and associated assets.
    • support multiple, highly complex business processes and serves as a functional leader

Project Details
Our client is expanding their team to accelerate the establishment of the Enterprise Data Governance capability, including the addition of formal data stewards to the firm.

This newly established function partners closely with the central Data Governance team and is responsible to activate and mature data governance across the firm's various data domains. The data steward will partner with other strategy analysts and data stewards to facilitate data certification, the use of metadata playbooks, standards and policies, and support the overall data stewardship community in managing the ongoing health of our data assets. This team will work closely with business stakeholders and technology partners to champion a data-centric culture and ensure we have an engaged and empowered community of data allies and stewards around our business data domains.

Team Details
The data steward will interact with a variety of teams and stakeholders. The primary teams will be the central team in data governance responsible for coordinating data stewards, and the data stewardship community that is in our business areas. Our data stewards are led by a data owner in each domain, as well as a data steward team leader. The person in this position will also interact with various technical stakeholders in the data and technology teams, who often have SME knowledge about the firm's existing or planned data structures.

Who You Are:

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of education & experience is required with an emphasis in Business, Finance, Computer Science, Engineering or MIS strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years experience directly related to Wealth Management / Financial Services industry, functional and/or technical area of expertise.
  • 2 years experience in data management, data governance, data quality, master data management, and/or designing and implementing functional systems and data in a structured process preferred
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills with proven ability to establish and cultivate relationships with key partners
  • Excellent relationship management, interpersonal, collaboration and negotiation skills
  • Motivated to understand and keep current with relevant Industry trends and best practices Strong critical thinking skills and ability to navigate ambiguous situations
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to summarize complex information and concepts and clearly communicate up to Senior Management
