Scope of Position:

The Controller is responsible for providing consistent leadership in the financial area of the hotel by supplying management with guidance and training; focusing on the profitability of the business; maintaining accurate and timely financial reporting; ensuring acceptable levels on internal control; ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, and safeguarding owners/investors assets.

Job Responsibilities:

  • -Approach all encounters with guests and team members in a friendly, service-oriented manner.
    -Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Prism standards, as required by scheduling, which will vary according to the needs of the hotel.
    -Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which includes proper dress and correct nametag when working.
    -Comply at all times with Prism standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
    -Must, at all times, be attentive, friendly, helpful and courteous to all guests, managers, and other team members.
    -Manage receivables, payables, credit, payroll and cash handling functions with the accounting department.
    -Prepare financial analysis of hotel operations including variance explanation and make recommendations to the achievement of financial goals/targets.
    -Develop and implement financial control procedures and systems; ensure compliance to "Internal Control Checkup"; maintain documents for audits of hotel accounts; ensure compliance with government regulations and contractual agreements.
    -Direct preparation of budgets, financial forecasts and reporting.
    -Hire, train and provide career development for subordinates; conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to employees in a timely manner.
    -Fulfill Manager on Duty shifts as necessary.
    -Ensure hotel is in compliance with all federal, state and local laws, including OSHA, EEOC, Wage Hour and Health laws.
    -Perform special financial analysis as needed and/or requested by the General Manager and Corporate Office.
    -Maximize efforts towards productivity, identify problem areas and assist in finding and implementing their solutions.
    -Effectively manage and communicate cash flow related issues. This includes the accurate and timely preparation of cash flow statements, management of receivables, payables, cash balances, control mechanisms and timely deposits of all funds.
    -Monitor hotel revenues and expenses and ensure accurate recording in accordance with Prism established guidelines. Investigate and critique variances to budget or to prior year and offer practical improvement ideas to management.
    -Actively participate in Executive Committee and staff meetings.
    -Ensure hotels' compliance on all regulatory licenses and permits, leases, contracts, legal agreements and the proper execution of all operational taxes. Provide assistance to management in enforcing compliance on all of these items.
    -Analyze financial data and operation in order to assist and advises management in maintaining the hotels' financial objectives.
    -Ensure all balance sheets accounts; including bank statement reconcilements on a timely basis.
    -Establish and continually audit all internal financial controls including purchasing, cash handling, disbursements, inventories, hotel assets, master keys, payroll and team member records.
    -Manage all pertinent leases, contracts, agreements, covenants and restrictions as necessary.
    -Knowledge of City, County, State sales tax laws and laws dealing with innkeepers, liquor and labor.
    -Submit accurate and timely critiques and credit loss reports as required.
    -Review all major banquet functions and group accounts for proper credit extensions prior to arrival.
    -Establish balances in accruals, pre-paid and other accounts using proper accrual methods and expense realization logic.
    -Perform other duties as requested by management.
    -Attend or conducts all training/meetings as required by management.
