Job Description

HI Boston is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to join the team. The Maintenance Supervisor is a hard-working, reliable, and dedicated individual whose primary responsibility is maintaining HI Boston in excellent condition, by foreseeing potential problems, responding swiftly to repair issues, and rolling out improvement initiatives. The maintenance supervisor will work independently and as part of a larger team. Full time employees working 30+ hours/week are eligible for medical, dental, vision, sick, vacation, floating holidays, 403b w/ company match and more. New hire waiting periods apply.  


  • Maintain physical condition of the hostel following HI USA standards, ensuring a positive guest experience.
  • Perform routine maintenance throughout property including grounds maintenance, building repair/renovation, and preventative maintenance.
  • Ensure that all work orders are professionally completed on time and are correctly recorded.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory.
  • Maintain an on-going list of projects, plan a daily/weekly/monthly work cycle of those projects to ensure completion in a timely fashion.
  • Work with vendors to create a reliable system for work requests that are unable to be provided by the department; ensure that all working relationships are
     positive and always geared toward the best interest of the hostel.
  • Own, organize and maintain safe work spaces, ensuring they are kept clean and orderly during and following repair work or ongoing projects. 
  • Monitor and address pest control.
  • Other projects or duties as assigned.


  • High school diploma or GED with 2-5 years relevant work experience. * Hostel or hotel experience a plus.
  • Working knowledge of plumbing, painting, HVAC, electrical, and/or other general repair skills.
  • Good time management and organization skills. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with many types of personalities.
  • Sound judgment and ability to work with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to climb, lift, stand, squat, walk and stand for long periods of time.
