Job Description

HI Boston is seeking a Maintenance Tech to join the team. The maintenance tech is responsible for keeping the hostel property in excellent condition by anticipating problems, responding swiftly to repair issues, and rolling out improvement initiatives under the direction of a maintenance supervisor/manager or hostel management. The maintenance tech will work independently and as part of a larger team.

  • Perform routine maintenance through property including grounds maintenance, building repair/renovation, and preventative maintenance  
  • Maintain physical condition of the hostel using HI USA standards, ensuring a positive guest experience.
  • Record and resolve work orders in a timely manner while anticipating and responding to hostel room needs. 
  •  Ability to climb, lift, stand, squat, walk and stand for long periods of time.
  •  Monitor and address pest control.
  •  Perform janitorial duties and support housekeeping as needed.
  •  Other special projects or duties as assigned.


  • High school diploma or GED
  •  Basic working knowledge of plumbing, painting, HVAC, electrical, and/or other general repair skills.
  • Good organization and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with many types of personalities.
  • Sound judgment and ability to work with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English
