The Sir Francis Drake hotel has been a San Francisco icon and social beacon since its 1928 debut. Located just two minutes from Union Square, it is the most convenient location to visit San Francisco's major sites and unique offerings. In April of 2021, Northview Hotel Group who owns and operates several iconic hotels and resorts in the United States (including The Boca Raton, Brasada Ranch Resort, Tapatio Springs Resort and The Beach House) purchased the Sir Francis Drake Hotel and began an extensive renovation. The hotel is now poised to reclaim its once and future legendary status when it reopens later this year.

Job Description

The Director of Sales and Marketing (DOSM) reports to the Managing Director and is primarily responsible for driving top line revenue through strategic leadership of the sales and catering teams and all marketing functions. The Sir Francis Drake will be an independent hotel and a successful DOSM will have a proven track record leading a Sales and Marketing team. The DOSM will take an active role in creating exciting packages and promotions that capture the imagination and delight customers. They will monitor the market, keeping hotel stakeholders informed about emerging trends and opportunities. This high profile role in San Francisco will be the ambassador for the hotel, opening doors and creating partnerships with the business community.


Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Organize a diverse and energized Sales and Marketing team
  • Set revenue goals for all sales and catering managers
  • Conduct performance reviews for all direct reports and provide regular feedback to entire team
  • Keep team up to date with key initiatives in the hotel that require their support
  • Ensure team members feel supported and motivated


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver a thoughtful Marketing Plan and annual budget
  • Ensure hotel meets/exceeds budgeted goals
  • Present accurate forecasting with prescriptive advice
  • Manage sales activity, productivity and expenses
  • Participate in important sales negotiations and site visits
  • Use available market data and reports to monitor and proactively manage hotel performance
  • Use geo and company data to target new customers and increase penetration of existing accounts
  • Partner with brand agencies to create multi-channel promotional campaigns that generate editorial coverage
  • Ensure processes and workflow in the department are in keeping with best practices
  • Ensure team is trained how to optimize sales technology, platforms and tools
  • Ability to explain contractural terms and negotiation strategies to team


Qualifications

  • Ten years of experience in hospitality with at least five years in Sales and Marketing as DOSM
  • Worked within major US cities with strong convention business; San Francisco experience preferred
  • Proven ability to direct, lead, train and motivate a direct sales team
  • Knowledge of all market segments and channel sources, as well as ability to develop a strategic plan for each
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Marketing or related major preferred
  • Proficient in managing/using sales automation
  • Can work collaboratively with Revenue Management to set pricing parameters


Compensation Package:

  • $150.0-$180.0 base salary
  • Performance based annual incentive
