As the first settlement house in the nation and for over 130 years, University Settlement has been empowering New York residents by building on their strengths through comprehensive, quality services that meet the current needs of the community; innovation that anticipates future needs; and advocacy to improve the community as a whole.University Settlement Neighborhood Center, serving Manhattan's Lower East Side offers a robust menu of services to a diverse population of older adults aged 60 and older.The multi-service program provides case assistance, meals, health and wellness activities, recreational and educational activities through virtual classes.What You Will Be Doing:Order, receive, inspect, and safely store dry, perishable, and frozen foodsCheck refrigerator and freezer temperatures on a daily basisPrepare daily food cost records and enter daily statistics into databaseAttend training sessionsEnsure that all kitchen equipment is cleaned and sanitized weeklyCollaborate with Director and Chef on MenusMake local food purchases if neededClean all pots, pans, utensils, and kitchen equipment dailyClean stoves and ovens once a week, clean refrigerators weeklyWhat We Are Looking For:You must have a New York City Department of Health Food Handler's CertificateHigh School Diploma or HSEYou have at least two years of experience in the food service industryGood physical healthMust be able to stretch, bend, walk up flights of stairsBasic computer skills required, including Microsoft OfficeMust speak and understand basic EnglishMust be a team player and interact well with other staffAbility to follow menus, large quantity recipes, and schedulesHours:17 hours per weekWe are committed to building a diverse and inclusive community.We support a broadly diverse team who will contribute to our organization.We are an equal employment opportunity for all regardless of race, color, citizenship, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, disability, veteran or reservist status, or any other category protected by federal, state, or local law.
