A server must be well-equipped to handle a lot of tables during rush hour and must also make sure he works with the host and other staff members when waiting on a customer.

A server must also do some side work at the beginning and ending of the shift which includes stocking the tables with tableware, salt, and pepper dispensers, napkins, hand tissues, placing clean menu inserts, cleaning or sweeping the dining area.

They can also restock the ice for the bar, salads and also update the menu board of the restaurant specials, discounts, happy hours, etc.
